Hearing Testing

At Dr. Quinn ENT, we provide many of our patients with quick, painless hearing tests. These tests are advisable for patients of all ages – and they are useful even for patients without any suspicion of hearing loss. In healthy patients, a hearing test can be used as a “baseline” against which any further hearing loss can be judged. An auditory evaluation is recommended for anyone who is subjected to loud noises on a regular basis, including but not limited to:

  • Performing musicians
  • Construction workers
  • Other workers with loud workplaces
  • Teenagers or others who listen to loud music
  • Anyone who has trouble hearing conversation, or has another reason to suspect hearing loss
  • Anyone who hears buzzing or other continuous noises (Tinnitus).

In some workplaces, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates hearing inspections for employees in order to discern the early signs of hearing loss, which is considered an on-the-job injury. And the maximum volume of an iPod can reach 120 dB — easily surpassing the 85 dB at which workplace noise becomes controlled by OSHA regulations!

Having hearing tests performed early and often – whether or not a hearing loss is suspected – can be indispensable in finding and dealing with hearing loss before it becomes serious. Dr. Quinn ENT will assist you in finding ways to prevent or deal with further hearing loss, including:

  • Information on the correct use of hearing protection devices such as earplugs
  • Information on iPod volume controls and other preventative strategies
  • The fitting, adjustment, and sale of hearing aids
